I've read that it's safest to install them through USB Loader GX because it allows you to create a virtual emuNAND and run it on top of that instead of messing with the Wii's internal NAND. Gecko OS is an application to allow the running of Import games and cheat codes. The thing is, I just modded my Wii the other day, and I've been using USB Loader GX just fine without cIOS. You can now use homebrew such as USB Loader GX. It also says at the bottom, after the installation instructions: Some homebrew might work better using cIOS. This is required if you want to load games with a USB Loader. This tutorial will tell you how to install cIOS (custom IOS). According to the cIOS website, it states:
